The research project ‘ScaDS Dresden/Leipzig – Competence Center for Scalable Data Services and Solutions’ is being supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the ‘Competence centres for the intelligent use of big data’ funding programme.

ScaDS Dresden/Leipzig was officially launched on 13 October 2014, laying the foundations for the creation of a national competence centre for big data. The research project is scheduled to run for four years and is driven by a partnership between the Dresden University of Technology (TUD), Leipzig University, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the Leibnitz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development. In terms of research topics, the competence centre is concerned with the most important challenges in the field of acquisition, processing and evaluation of large volumes of data for a broad range of users.
